Professor Mary Beth B. Maningas, PhD, from the Department of Biological Sciences and the Research Center for Natural and Applied Sciences is one of the recipients of the 2020 Filipino Faces of Biotechnology. 

According to the Department of Agriculture, the award is given to outstanding Filipinos who have contributed a significant role in the field of Biotechnology which includes the field of agriculture, health and environment.

She was noted for her contributions in the field of Biotechnology in the country as her innovations include a local cost-effective Rapid White Spot Syndrome Diagnostics Kit that continues to help farmers in the shrimp industry. 

Furthermore, she was recognized for her work in the field of research and since then received prestigious awards particularly the 2016 Newton Fund for Leaders in Fellowship from the Royal Academy of Engineering in the United Kingdom.

As she carries on her journey in the field of STEM, she continues to win several awards such as the Eduardo A. Quisumbing Medal from DOST-NAST last 2021 and protracts in revolutionizing the mathematical, physical and life sciences category where the peer-reviewed article issue of Developmental and Comparative Immunology, provided evidence that foreign dsRNA triggers a cascade of genes that promote an antiviral state in edible whiteleg shrimp.
