“The Messenger’s Baton”

“The Messenger’s Baton”

I am a journalist, purposed to educate the public of what’s true I shall not sway from my obligation; I am aware of what I have to do The purveyor of justice and fairness they call me and so I shall act accordingly I will carry out my duty with interests not for the sake of personal profit But of the passion that drives me to curb dishonesty’s gambit

I am truth’s messenger, its vessel for its goal and vision And when there are division and separation, my ink will be the junction I look not at what fame or recognition my endeavours might get me I do not chase after praise and vanity for that is all momentary But for truthfulness and honesty that will continue to incite change eternally

They thought they could silence me, bribe me with fortunes and dirty salaries My integrity is not for sale, not now, and never will be The truth I write is for the people, not the oligarchs living comfortably You may have riches, alliances, powerful forces in heed of your command But my pen and paper will never cease its stand, for the truth, I’m willing to die by its hand

My mere body is not of iron that will live to see another generation But my words will be a torch, a light that’ll be passed on to serve society a function A day will come when my mind succumbs to senility and the forces of those in opposition Might take advantage of the uncertainty, fear remains a stranger for I know I am not alone,

There will always be someone, prodigies, earnest with a mission to serve truth’s cornerstone
